Overview n°44 by Christine Raynard, Department of Sustainable Development (DDD)

1) The city of Toulouse has been experimenting in April 2011, the energy trails leading to the first electric set up sidewalk on a busy street downtown.

It consists of eight panels for each and each producing up to thirty watts, which are s illuminate a lamp all night.
This technological innovation, still experimental, very interested RATP, as 4.5 million daily passengers use the Paris Metro.

2) The city of Saint-Quentin (Aisne) tests on a city bus network can only run on bioethanol made from locally grown beets. Although more expensive to produce than diesel, biofuel should reduce by 70% the emission of greenhouse gases compared to diesel.
This experiment will be conducted three months until August 2011.
During this test period, network technicians Pastel in Saint-Quentin will measure in partnership with ADEME, consumption, emissions and maintenance costs of the prototype of Scania.
After this test phase, the bus will continue its experimentation in the fall, the urban transport network of Reims, which will use a biofuel made from grape residue.
experiments already exist in Europe, particularly in Stockholm, but this is the first time in France that experiments of this type is conducted with fuel produced and consumed locally, and especially only with bioethanol.

3) The Deutsche Bahn in partnership with social missions in stations now offer a service "kids on tour" to facilitate the travel of children of separated parents, whose homes are distant.

Children are supported by members of the social missions, which accompany them throughout their journey and offer kits games. This service is 25 euros per child each way.

4) The German Railways (DB Schenker) had already conducted tests of carriage of goods between Germany and China via the Trans-Siberian railway line, passing through northern Mongolia.
this time they have flown from Duisburg and Chongqing in the south, through Poland, Belarus, Russia, southern Kazakhstan, in just sixteen days. By sea, the container ships take about one month.
Deutsche Bahn believes that rail freight could emerge with China later in the year 2011

5) To avoid building new power lines, the German government is considering the use of 7800 kilometers from the power grid of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) to help transport electricity across the country.
However, the President of the DB, has expressed reservations because according to him, the integration of power lines would cost 250,000 euros per kilometer. The subsidiary responsible for managing the energy supply system of the group, DB Energie, hope, in turn, develop its business.
