Social issues Overview (April 2011)

27/04/11

Each month the Department of Social Issues Strategic Analysis Centre offers a selection of information, innovation and experimentation from elsewhere.

It does not pretend to cover the news so exhaustice international social or contibuer to implement them in the context hexagonal. It consists of subjective choices deliberately made by official representatives of the department as part of their research and their meetings. These raise the membership like this, caution or rejection, their vocation is to help lead the debate on the future of social models.

  • The curiosity of April: United States

In San Francisco, the Chinese American International School has long had a reputation, but it is especially the case since an increasing number of Chinese parents not bet on learning the Chinese language by their children (+ 42% of non-Asian children for 10 years, who now constitute 27% of the workforce). This private school teaches both Mandarin and English, from kindergarten to college. The property is selective (25% to 30% of admitted applicants from) and tuition fees amount to 22,000 dollars a year. Immersion in an Asian community, very important in California, there is certainly
a lot (hence the desire to learn about this culture), as well as the growing economic weight of China in the world. Learning the Chinese language is very popular in all California schools, but also on the East Coast.
