On the day before the Social Summit the Centre d’analyse stratégique presented several studies on the evolution of employment by sector, requested by the President of the Republic.

Even though the crisis is generating short-term unemployment, it also presents long-term business ans skills transformations, a result of current heterogeneous sectorial circumstances. Product or organizational innovation in key sectors remained intact during the worst of the 2008 crisis and the potential development created by emerging markets shows that job loss may be reversible if efforts are forced to focus on promising businesses. The challenge is to identify these businesses in time to prepare for the future, or at least offer a perspective on which to base decisions on.

The first study on "Job-creating sectors in the medium term" is an extension of last year’s policy brief that updates the sectorial employment projections. It aims to identify areas likely to be growth and job enhancing after the crisis.

The second study is a long term perspective entitled "The new areas of growth: a projection for 2030," and studies potential different scenarios. It synthesizes three realistic scenarios, changes in economic conditions and how affected sectors are by economic factors.
