At the request of the Minister of Higher Education and Research (Mar. 2008), the present report, prepared under the authority of Jean Syrota, was achieved with the help of a researcher (PhD) of the Polytechnic , four members of the mission of the Centre d'analyse stratégique (Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, responsible for Forward Planning, Public Policy Evaluation and Development of the Digital Economy), and support ( integration of the report) a member of the General Council of Mines (Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment).

Purpose of Report

Reflection led by the committee chaired by Jean Syrota aims firstly to consider the possible technologies of different vehicles of the future, the other to offer public policy recommendations to prepare the future of the automotive sector. Given the proportions of different categories of vehicles sold each year, the scope is deliberately focused on the particular vehicle "general public", excluding commercial vehicles - heavy or light - vehicle transit and commercial fleets.

The mission was concerned with problems of infrastructure and logistics involved, the extent, nature, the generalization of a vehicle can only be considered only if accompanied by a distribution of energy corresponding (supply, security ...).
