Transport Overview n°40 by Christine Raynard, Sustainable Development Department

1) The Quebec Ministry of Transportation is studying the idea of a quick monorail to link Quebec at Montreal in about an hour, with trains traveling at 250 km / h . This project is estimated at three billion Canadian dollars (2.2 billion euros), while a high-speed line would cost three times higher.

because:
- the monorail requires minimal ground infrastructure, not viaduct construction and metal structures are built factory by robotic processes;
- the line through the center of a highway or over a railway line, no expropriation or acquisition of land is required .
shuttles with a length of 18 meters would allow the transport of about sixty passengers.
To obviate the snowy hazards, the overhead rail would be covered.

2) China plans to create the largest metropolis in the world, with an area of 41,000 km2 , involving nine cities in South-Eastern countries (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Huizhou and Zhaoqing ) and bringing together 42 million inhabitants.
The project, to be born in five to six years, plans to build an express rail line connecting this megalopolis in Hong Kong, and the construction of a rail network of 5,600 kilometers of lines to link the cities together in one hour maximum.
By 2020, China plans to create other urban areas of this type, which will bring together 50 to 100,000,000 people, including in the north with the areas of Beijing and Tianjin.

3) In February 2009, the Swiss Railways (SBB) have proposed the purchase of tickets, "Mobile Ticket", using the mobile phone . Since this offer has developed significantly and SBB have sold over a million "Mobile Tickets".
In addition to providing public transport tickets, SBB Mobile can also check schedules, updated information on delays , lane changes and rail traffic. There are also maps and hiking trails. This is one of the applications most used mobile phone in Switzerland and is the distribution channel SBB fastest growing stronger.

4) In advance of its competitors, the Sixt car hire was launched in November 2008 its application for the iPhone and the iPad recently and also has a booking system "Quick Check-In."
In its development strategy for 2011, Sixt will offer new services for customers and develop an iPhone application, allowing to find his car faster. This flash klaxonnera or to facilitate its location. Another innovation is planned: the recognition by barcode.
