Seminar: Social Responsibility and Competitiveness: A New Model for companies?

01/02/12

As part of its work programme, the Centre d’analyse stratégique has decided to devote a seminar to the issue of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its impact on the performance and competitiveness of a company.

Seminar - Social Responsibility and Competitiveness:
a new model for companies?

Wednesday 1 February 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Building Jacques Chaban-Delmas - Victor Hugo Room
101, rue de l'Université - 75007 Paris

The limits of a model that traditionally emphasizes primarily economic performance in achieving immediate results are noticeable by looking at the economic and social consequences

This point of view has also highlighted the need for a managerial model that sufficiently takes into account the interests and concerns of employees in terms of work conditions and organization.

If these concerns are not taken into consideration, companies risk a higher level of disengaged employees, and even employees losing sight of the meaning of their work. In addition to the relationships within the company, the relationship between the company, customers and suppliers should also be taken into consideration. In general, this means that the question of ethics and corporate social responsibility should hold a central place in this discussion.

Considering this, new so-called official managerial practices are growing (professional equality between men and women, reconciling private and professional life, seniority concerns ...), as well as specific organizational practices (quality management, ISO practices, work safety ...). Simultaneously, terms and ethical standards are also emerging and new players are trying to measure the level of business investment in socially responsible practices.

On February 1st an examination of this new business model that would reconcile economic performance and social performance was undertaken: do these practices, described as "socially responsible", truly benefit companies and employees? Or rather are they, as some argue, created as new tools of political communication and social marketing for companies?

The seminar was moderated by Dominique Rousset, economic journalist at France Culture
