Seminar: For a complementary rail, road and river freight service

25/09/12

Vincent Chriqui, Director General of Strategic Analysis Centre is pleased to invite you to the seminar

For a complementary rail, road and river freight service
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 9:15 to 12:45
at the Center for Strategic Analysis 18 rue de Martignac - 75007 Paris

  • How can we develop a sustainable freight transport?
  • What are the difficulties in establishing a complementary rail, road and river?
  • What are the contributions of research to support public policies?

This seminar will deepen the reflection on this subject.

In 2011, the road represents 93.7% of emissions of greenhouse gases in the transport sector, plus several other pollutants with serious impact on human health or the natural environment. Despite this, road transport remains strongly dominant in the organization of freight transport, with 88.3% market share. Therefore it is necessary to carefully consider the importance for the transport of goods, that covers the modal shift towards modes other than road, when economic and technical conditions permit, or a minimum of promoting complementarity of modes.
Thus, after the April 2012 work on urban logistics, this seminar focuses on the transport of goods to middle and long distance.
