To meet the preference of households in a context of fiscal constraints, France has decided, like many other European countries, to develop home support for seniors.

It was in the 2000s it took far as the challenge of upgrading housing for aging well at home. The action plans relating to old age had previously focused on health issues and medical-social. The National Housing (ANAH) estimates that nearly 2 million the number of people aged over 60 who need to adapt their homes. To address these needs, it is appropriate, bearing in mind the heterogeneity of the phenomenon in the country, to learn from European best practice by implementing two directions:

  • balance between effort and flow of new housing stock of existing ones, addressing almost exclusively on the new;
  • improve coordination of aid of any kind at the local level, including the organization access to adaptation work and home services in one stop shops.
